Before Dashwood had fire protection, the bell in the tower of the Lutheran church was rung and everyone responded and formed a bucket brigade. About 1918 Thomas Klumpp purchased a Model T and fitted it with a pump. It was housed in what was known as a fire hall behind the Clayton Pfile shoe store. Mr. Pfile was fire chief for several years. The primary operators of the machine were Mr. Pfile and Herb Wein. Some of the volunteers at that time were: Russell Baynham, Tom Klumpp, Joe Merner, Ed. Nadiger, Addison Tieman, Herb Wein, Harry Zimmer.

In 1940 Edwin Miller built a fire engine from an old Packard car. It served the village until 1954. In 1954 a new fire hall was built and the police village bought a 1954 Chev. truck, and had it made into a fire engine in Stratford, priced at $10,500. This engine was equipped with all modern fire fighting equipment. This also served parts of Hay and Stephen townships. Fire Chiefs were V.L. Becker and assistant chief Mervyn Tieman. Other members were: Bob Hayter, Emil Becker, Lorne Kleinstiver, Albert Miller, Ed. Miller, Irvin Rader, Cliff Salmon, George Sheffbuck, Charles Steinhagen, Harold Weber, Stuart Wolfe, Harry Zimmer, Alvin Willert, Jim Hayter, Wally Becker, Hugh Boyle, Ron Braid, Bill Chandler, Joe Creces, Phil Davis, Stan Holubowicz, Russell Hopcroft, Howard Klumpp, Brian Lightfoot, George Tieman, Gerald Martene, Bill Masse, Ken McCrae, Frank McIsaac, Rev.
